Ksh 200,000 fine imposed

Did you know failure to report an accident occurrence may attract a penalty of Ksh 200,000 or an imprisonment of not more than six month or both.

According to OSHA 2007, Sec 21 on notice of accident and dangerous occurrence, an employee who fails to report an occurrence commits an offence and is liable to the fine stipulated above.

When an accident in a workplace causes the death of a person, the employer is supposed to notify the area Occupation Safety and Health Officer within 24hrs.

If the accident in a workplace cause non-fatal injuries to the person therein, the employer shall send a witten notice to the area Occupation Safety and Health within 7 working days.
